This rainbow jersey of Mapei belonged to Abraham Olano, when he was proclaimed world champion in Duitama 1995. Olano, rower and counter-clockmaker from Gipuzkoa, was in the Italian team Mapei that year and wore the precious rainbow band on his chest in competition after achieving the first world gold medal for Spain on the men’s route. The jersey, with the colors of the world champion on the multicolored background of Mapei, is a piece of very high historical value: it combines the mastery of the powerful Mapei team in the 90s with the individual gesta of Olano, who also that year was world silver in time trial and later won the 1998 Vuelta. His exhibition in the museum epitomizes the pinnacle of Spanish cycling in the 90s, with Olano at the peak of his career.
